Dr. Sebastian Wieczorek is Vice President and Business Lead for Data Intelligence, SAP’s platform for AI and Big Data technologies. In this role, he is responsible for development teams located in multiple countries across Europe and Asia.
Mr. Wieczorek plays a key role in SAP’s AI activities, e.g. as a member of SAP’s AI ethics steering board, publishing AI guidelines. Beyond his active engagement to apply AI in a human-centric way at SAP, he shares his knowledge as keynote speaker in public events, panelist and expert. He further acts as SAP’s spokesperson AI towards media, press and analysts.
Mr. Wieczorek is member of the Study Commission on AI of the German parliament, investigating the future influence of AI on society and economy as well as identifying the need for policy-based action at national, European and international level.
Further, he is board member of the AI working group at BITKOM, Germany’s digital association representing more than 2600 companies and member of the steering board of the EU-project SHERPA, which conducts research on ethical questions regarding the use of AI.
Mr. Wieczorek serves as an academic expert and reviewer for the European Commission and the German Ministry of Education and Research, as well as for German research institutions like Helmholtz and DLR.
In previous positions at SAP, he coordinated the startup engagement activities of the SAP Innovation Center Network, including the scouting of companies for partnering and M&A, the mentoring of startups at accelerators like TechStars, Startupbootcamp, Seedcamp and SAP.io, as well as representing SAP at the German Startups Association.
While at SAP Research, Mr. Wieczorek managed EU-funded research projects and led the « Application Engineering Group ». During this time, he was an organizer and member of various scientific program committees for peer-reviewed conferences and workshops, conducting lectures on Web Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt, and published numerous papers on software engineering. Before joining SAP, Sebastian worked as a Software Developer in Moscow, Russia.
Mr. Wieczorek holds a Doctorate degree in Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, a Master of Computer Science at the Technical University of Dresden and a Bachelor of Science at the Northumbria University at Newcastle, UK. Before joining SAP, Sebastian worked as a Software Developer in Moscow (Russia) and studied computer sciences at the Technical University of Dresden (Germany)
