Cristina Martínez García

Cristina Martinez, Qualified Risk Director® and The DCRO Risk Governance Institute faculty member, leverages her expertise in using risk governance as a business transformation catalyst to support the board’s focus on strategy, governance, and value creation. She is a business advisor to the board and senior management, with a proven track record of leading risk and insurance functions at large multidisciplinary teams across continents.
Cristina has been reporting directly to the Executive Committee and to the board’s audit, risk, sustainability, and compliance committees at large organizations since 2005 in a variety of industries including aviation, consumer products, nonprofit, and infrastructure. Currently, she is serving as Chief Risk Officer at Sacyr, the fourth largest global infrastructure developer, a multinational based in Madrid, Spain.
She has held a broad range of responsibilities throughout her 15 years of leadership in multinational environments. She is known as a transformational leader and pioneering strategist, working with the highest level of integrity, operational excellence, and a deep and passionate commitment to clients. She has led large corporations through their most important challenges and opportunities, from product launches and bids to business model transformations and mergers and acquisitions. Through it all, she has successfully navigated highly visible regulations, crisis management, investors, and media.
In addition to her P&L, strategy and operational background, Cristina has extensive board experience at non-profit organizations and public companies in the risk and insurance sector, including The Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) where she served as Vice Chairman (2015-2018) and board member (2008-2018). She is a cofounder of the Spanish Risk and Insurance Managers Association IGREA and has also served as board member of the Spanish association AGERS. Cristina has achieved numerous awards for her work in risk management, both at the business and academic worlds, most recently the European Risk Management Awards 2021: “Risk Resilience Initiative of the Year”. She is a chartered actuary and PhD in risk management and an active researcher in this field.
