The European Forum for Risk and Insurance professionnals
European media platform Euractiv shared a story on the ‘war on technology’ and how the EU could now have the potential to ‘win’. With our biannual Forum in November we will be talking about Digital Transformation and how this relates to risk professionals and we found this story of considerable interest.
Fred Bakker, former Editor in Chief of Dutch financial newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad, writes for Euractiv: “There is a war on technology going on: China, the US and Russia are competing to be the leader in artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, machine learning, digital platforms, 5G, new materials, photonics, and quantum computing.”
While some doubt that Europe is in a position to compete, Bakker states that Europe is ‘waking up’, based on the following factors:
This segues neatly into one of our sessions planned for the FERMA Forum in Berlin this year, which takes a European perspective of how the scope of the risk manager is changing based on technology and how this will have significantly evolved by as soon as next year.
While developments in areas such as big data and AI put Europe in a stronger position to contend in the global technology competition, for the European risk manager there are various implications to consider. As part of the overall theme of the Forum – Aim for the Future – our workshop, From Data to AI: The New Scope of the Risk Manager in 2020, will consider how AI will change the practice of the profession.
